Educated at Elizabeth College, Guernsey
Commissioned into the S Lancs Regt in Sep 1897
Promoted to Lieut in Oct 1899
Served with Natal Field Force and participated in the operations of 17 to 24 Jan 00, 5-7 Feb 00 and 19-27 Feb 00 on Tugela. Wounded on 22 Feb 00. Took part in the actions of Spion Kop and Vaal Kranz and was mentioned in despatches in the London Gazette of 8 Feb 01.
KIA at Fort Italia on 25 Sep 01.

His outpost was attacked by several hundred Boers at midnight, his last words were reported as, 'No Surrender!'.
